The Magic Finger
When I was a child, I was a bookworm.
Everyday I went to library, and I was reading one book a day.
I just enjoyed reading a story, and then I got not only knowledge but also to give more than a passing thought to the world.
I liked story that was quite different from the reality.
So for example never ending story, momo by Michael Ende and The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Prince and The Pauper, The Happy Prince….
Even now I don’t read book any more, I fell so excited to think the story.
(Do I like “Prince” story?)
Anyway, when I read “The Magic Finger”, I recalled feelings in childhood.
In fact, I had read ROALD DAHL's book, and I had read Charlie and Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, and so on.
However I’d never read this book in English, so I was confused how to read.
Because I took a long time to get story, I didn’t understand what this character was going through.
But I had my nose in a book, and I enjoyed reading like a child.
It was very funny story.
An eight-year-old girl (I don't know her name) has a gift which she uses to shrink the Gregg's family and give them bird's wings.
And though she used Magic finger, she wanted to see if the family was all right.
She tried to call Gregg's family,
'Hello,'
'Quack!'
'Who is it?'
'Quack-quack!'
'Philip, is that you?'
'Quack-quack-quack-quack-quack!'
So, she knew what had happened to the family.
I felt this story has a cynical message.
At the same time, I felt I wasn't a child, because I couldn't feel obediently.
